But what prey tell is sweet undertow?
Sweet Undertow is a movement: it is also the blues-soaked Americana project of Chicago-born songwriter Eddy Undertow, whose restless path runs from wildland firefighting to wandering Asia and Europe with only a guitar in hand. Raised on Muddy Waters and Midwest punk, his sound collides grit and melody: think Townes Van Zandt meets The Jesus Lizard. After settling in San Francisco, he released 2022’s Skeletone Machine (Mother West), recorded with John Vanderslice. The forthcoming Days Without Names (Spring 2026) leans more acoustic and unflinching, exploring mortality, depression, and redemption with raw honesty, dark humor, and a defiant belief that - despite everything - kindness and love still matter.
